What does "Married But Filing Jointly" mean?

there is no but, it is just "married, filing jointly.' it means there is one tax return per married couple. if you want to go with "married, filing separately" then both spouses have their own individual return. in most cases, it is better to file jointly. your cpa will be able to answer which is best for your situation.
