Why graphite is used as crucible why melting metals?

Graphite has a very high melting point with strong intermolecular forces of attraction between the carbon molecules in it. Thus if used as a crucible for melting metals, it won't melt easily and can be used to melt metals over a wide range of temperature. Thus it can b used as a crucible due to its high melting point.
