Trying to get my son to eat solids..need help tho?

when my son was 8months we tried the solid foods but he was choking on it so we stopped and now he is almost one and still he can't handle solids he has his front teeth and everything. right now we are giving him broth with rice in it he eats it but we have to give it to him very little at a time. what else can i do?
